My Home A/V Cart

I have this thing for gear.

I have a thing for gear. Gear of all kinds — arts and crafts, computers, barware, kitchen gadgets, and in this case, camera and photography gear. While I tend to be a super-organized person, my collection of gear in my small house can be a problem. I have stuff tucked away everywhere and getting something out becomes a production in itself. Now that I am needing to regularly access my camera and photography gear for the new podcast, the process of rearranging a room to access it is not the most efficient use of time. Enter one of my geekiest ideas yet: create my own A/V cart.

I’ve had this collapsible cart for a while as something to put in my car and use when I have meetings that require me to haul in a bunch of stuff. Since I am not going to large meetings any time soon it seems, I decided to pull it out and make it my personal A/V cart. This was a fun Sunday night project for me (because I really do love creating order from chaos)! I set up a power strip on the top so everything is plugged in and always charged. And now I can see what I have, which means more of my toys will get used more often. I used clear shoe and accessory boxes that I had from The Container Store to hold bits and pieces. The ArtBin houses all my GoPro accessories. Cameras are on the top, accessories in the middle, and tripods/stands are on the bottom. I quite literally had all of this on-hand and just pulled it from various parts of my house and garage to create this well-organized audio-visual gear cart. I am not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed by that.

Of course, it is a bit of an eyesore and I don’t really have anywhere to store it. For now, that is a sacrifice I am willing to make given we are are not having any large gatherings at our house in the near future and the podcast is getting recorded on the regular. I’ll just roll it up next to the Peloton that now sits in our living room (as my husband calls it our new “furniture”). The COVID-19 pandemic/quarantine giveth and taketh.
