The True Meaning of Memorial Day
What does Memorial Day mean to you? A three-day weekend? Time to stock up on purchases while everything is on sale? The first weekend of summer lake-going?The true meaning of Memorial Day a day on which those who died in active military service are remembered. One organization is working to bring that meaning back to our awareness: Carry the Load.Carry the Load is an organization I became involved with last year. I walked in honor of my brother, Rob Reeves, who died August 6, 2011 while serving as a Navy SEAL on SEAL Team VI in Afghanistan. I raised money for families of the fallen. I will participate again this year and would like to encourage your participation in some way, shape or form.Carry the Load encourages us all to carry the burden of others who have carried for us through a national relay that started last week in New York, and continues 24-hours a day down the east coast, ending in Dallas on Memorial Day weekend. The national relay will hit Little Rock on Tuesday, May 20th. I am planning to walk the 8 PM - 10 PM leg (Leg 286) that starts in the parking lot of Dicky Stephens ballpark in North Little Rock and ends at Brady Elementary School (7915 W Markham Street, Little Rock, AR 72205) for a total distance of 5.66 miles.I walk in memory of my brother, Rob Reeves. Rob was 14 months younger than me, but will always be the person I looked up to in life.If you would like to participate on Tuesday, May 20th at 8 PM, please sign up to join my Little Rock team here.If you can not participate, but would like to donate to the Little Rock team, please do so here.If you are outside of Little Rock and would like to participate in the Dallas Memorial Day walk on Sunday, May 25th at 4 PM (through Monday, May 26th at 12:14 PM, lasting 20 hours and 14 minutes), you can join my Dallas team here.If you can not participate, but would like to donate to the Dallas team, please do so here. And you don't have to walk or donate to help! You can also help by spreading the word and helping us get more awareness and participation!
